AS Review for LUMC – Walaeus Library – University Library Leiden

USER GUIDE for AS REVIEW ON LUMC PC/ LUMC laptop
As there are specific important implications for AS REVIEW ON LUMC PC’s/ LUMC laptop’s we hereby request you to follow belowmentioned NOTICES

IN ADVANCE IMPORTANT NOTICES
– Permission to install
Ask via your LUMC department computer contact (ACP-er=Afdelings Computer Persoon) permission to install Python software and AS Review software

-Access
You can only use the AS review software on the laptop/pc it is installed on, there is no (online) sharing possibility of your AS Review projects with others and/or other devices. Sharing is only via ‘downloaded’ file (preferably a file in RIS format)

-First Python software installation
AS Review can only be installed after installation of Python software; Python software (and AS Review) can NOT be installed in the LUMC Follow You Desktop environment (FYD)

-For Python installation:
At Step 1. the ‘Check if Python v. is installed’ (For Windows/for MAC OS) at the AS Review download instructions webpage https://asreview.nl/download skip the ‘check’ – in other words: ALWAYS download and install the Python software (even if you can find it on your LUMC PC/LUMC laptop) and it is IMPORTANT that BEFORE installation you check the box Add Python .. to your PATH.. (Please be patient, installation of the Python software on your LUMC PC / LUMC laptop can take some time)
At Step 2. Install ASReview LAB
In Windows Explorer (at the ‘magnifying glass’) type CMD and press enter. Then type pip install asreview and press enter and AS Review will be installed. (Please be patient, installation of the AS Review on your LUMC PC / LUMC laptop can take some time).

Start AS Review
– A file (from f.i. PubMed) to import in AS Review should be in RIS format. Unfortunately the PubMed export function does NOT support files in RIS format. Therefore you have to send your PubMed export to EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero or Refworks first to have it changed into a file in RIS format.
– To produce a RIS file in EndNote go to File > Export > choose filter RefWorks (& deselect the box to have all records in your file)
– go to http://localhost:5000/projects or – if AS Review is not opening – go to Windows Explore (at the ‘magnifying glass’), type CMD and press enter. In the black command-screen type asreview lab and press enter. Now AS Review will open.

TIPS & NOTIFICATIONS while USING AS Review
-There is no difference in the commands ‘Get started’ and ‘Create’, they are the same command.
– At ‘Prior Knowledge’ we advise to use ‘Random’ instead of ‘Search’
– Make sure you ONLY export/download files from AS Review in RIS format as a file in Excel format can only be produced ONCE and will disable later exporting/downloading !
